Forensic Accounting, Business Valuation, FInancial Investigations

Cheryl's practice focuses on provision of professional services for matrimonial or business dissolutions, accounting standard of care and other settings where an accounting skill set will help the parties or Counsels understand better the issues they are facing. She has provided expert witness testimony in Virginia and the District of Columbia on topics including matrimonial forensic accounting, forensic accounting, business valuation, income taxation and accounting standard of care.

She graduated from Widener University with a BS-Business Administration (Accounting) and began her career in 1987.  She earned a Master of Tax Law from Villanova University in 1998.  She has been an actively licensed Certified Public Accountant since 1989.  In 1991, Hyder began providing forensic accounting and related litigation support services relative to domestic and business disputes, while also serving as manager of her accounting firm's tax practice.

Over time, she concentrated her practice to conducting financial investigations with or without allegations of fraud, valuation of privately held business interests and related matters.  She is a frequent speaker to peer, legal and academic communities on these topics, her writing has been recognized internationally, and her leadership in the fields of forensic accounting and fraud prevention has also been recognized by her peers.  Please let her know if you'd like a copy of her published works and /or information about her presentations.

Hyder's contributions to forensic accounting  have been recognized by professional organizations including the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (for her overall efforts in fraud prevention and detection).  Her 2011 article published in Fraud Magazine was voted by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners' membership as that year's most influential article, garnering her their distinguished Hubbard award.  She was recognized by a Fortune-100 company who noted her contributions as integral to their successful firm-wide process redesign and reorganization.

Cheryl is an active member of the Virginia Society of CPAs (VSCPA), and currently is a member of its teaching faculty and chairs its Professional Ethics Committee.  She is also a senior correspondent for the Consultants' Training Institute's “Around the Valuation World™” monthly webzine.  She previously served as an adjunct accounting faculty member for the Virginia Community College System.
